è sempre seguito da un verbo all’infinito senza to; non è mai preceduto da to; la 3ª persona singolare non prende la s finale; si usa must per il presente e to have to per il passato e il futuro: quindi si dice I must go, devo andare, ma I had to go, dovetti andare e I’ll have to go, dovrò andare; non ha le forme in -ing; la forma negativa, sempre senza do, è must not, che si abbrevia mustn’t. |
